The Last Emperor

The Last Emperor, "Fine Arts"
Uploaded by hifocused. - Music videos, artist interviews, concerts and more.

This man has been putting it down lyrically for years. Last Emp has always impressed me with the way he delivers the concepts of his songs. His wordplay is versatile in the sense that the patterns are intricate but still manage to give the average listener enough time to digest the meaning behind the words in the patterns. Check out thelastemp.com and here is the video for his latest single "Fine Art".

The New Message

"I get money, money I got"
Aint yall tired of hearin bout money
We aint even see, ak?
Nas said hip hop is dead: correction,
Hip hop's been fed a dreadful dream
Of more CREAM than it's ever seen if it
Could dumb down the masses;
Drive the vehicle of our expression drunk til it crashes...
Burn the house of our creativity until its ashes.
Bastards!
These record execs have planted rashes in the game;
A&R's searching for the same type of lame MC,
Covering the plain truth with thick sashes.
"Cash Rules Everything Around Me, CREAM, get the money; dollar dollar bill yall."
Wu wrote that when they was dead broke,
Aint nun of that shit real yall.
Grandmaster Flash & the furious 5
Kept hope alive while giving the gritty truth and
Feeding us the drive for change.
"Don't push me 'cause im close to the edge,
Im tryin not to lose my head."
The hallways in the 'jects is still pissy.
The ho-lice is still shifty.
The pusher man still tryin to get me to pop corn
Like its jiffy.
"It's like a jungle sometimes, it makes me wonder how I keep from goin under."
Aint nun change, the need for radio friendliness left us wit no free range.
Now we been taught to worship the dopeman
We got duffle bag boys and a rappin ass snowman
One of my favorite rappers named his album after some cocaine... damn.
Is rap dyin slowly?
Everybody wanna be Nino while our brethren OD.
"Hey Ladies!"
Aint yall tired of the misogynistic garbage?
Remember when it was cool to pay
homage to our sistas and tell 'em
"You're all that I need ill be there for you,
If you keep it real wit me, ill keep it real wit choo.
Lovin your whole steez and be in there boo
On top of dat you got the good power you."
Nowadays we hardly do.
And female MC rarely blow unless they rappin
Like a ho...
We already know u got breast and a vagina...
But we get a constant reminder.
Bad enough we got brovas cat callin on some ape man shit.
When was the last time you heard a woman rhyme about a healthy relationship
Or chillin at they girl house sippin on pressed grapes that rip.
But nooooooooo,
These busta ass payola praisin record companies
Rather give they money to tell young broths to
"Super soak that ho!"
And while I got ur attention id like to mention that I love my people,
But will somebody tell Latinos that the rhythm skeleton from "Murder She Wrote" is not a genre of music...
Thank you!
In short, mainstream hip hop aint ours no more,
Its now the new whip our slave owners use to spank you.
We need the game back.
Peace.

Jersey City Breaking it Down

I was recently informed about a B-Boy movement going down in my hometown so you know I had to check it out. There was an event held in July in downtown Jersey City on bright street where they also hold weekly break classes ( I plan to bring my dgt ). I was definitely proud to see that this movement seemed strong and sturdy! That night they had a few battles and random freestyle breaking Which was dope for sure. There was one lil dude in particular about 8yo and his style was phenomenal. All in all it was a good look and I will be attending more events in the future so don't forget my invite lol! Shout out to NBK and Rival who was dubbed as the man who organized the events and from my standpoint is driving force pushing this movement forward in Jersey City.

Elevate your experience

Oh No briefly shows some of the musical capabilities that can be utilized with the new Ipad! I have friends that are already sampling, scratching, building beats, controlling pro tools wireless, and even using full blown recording programs on the Iphone so I can't wait to get my hands on one of these. The only thing I'm not feeling is the size which for what it does is necessary but I always hated carrying too many things. If you have an Ipad you either gonna have to rock a fruity messenger bag of lose a hand. In the words of Black Sheep "The choice is yourrrrsss!"

IS THE ART OF FREESTYLE DEAD?!

The first rhymes I ever attempted to say out loud were as I like to say off the top of the dome. Freestyle, off the head spittin, extemporaneous speech is how I began rhyming and what I did for a few years before ever writing a lyric. It seems that this art is beginning to fade and is no longer seen as a weapon every MC must posses to some degree in order to be taking serious or seen as having a complete skill set. 99% of the time when I see a mix tape that says such n such's "freestyle" or I hear someone supposedly freestyle on radio its very rarely if ever a true freestyle. It seems that rappers now think bc it's not recorded its a freestyle. Motherf*cker if you wrote the shit it aint a god damn freestyle and beyond that I think your f*cking WACK for trying to pass it off as one. If you want to know what true freestyle is about look up artist like SuperNatural (depicted above), or Black Thought from the roots, and Mos Def is mos definitely a freestyle beast! If you see a rapper spittin a "freestyle" ask em if they wrote it, a lot of times their reading it write in front of you and calling it a freestyle lmao! You should be ashamed of yourselves!

Made of Aluminum?

Call me crazy but I wasn't at all thrilled with the new Iron Man movie. This time around seemed to have less action the the first. I went to see the midnight show and was definitely looking forward to being entertained but after wards I felt like it was a waste of money. Seeing the additional suit and war machine coming to life was cool but not enough to carry the movie. Mickey Rourke's character was bad ass but again not enough for me. All and all they needed to expand more on the characters abilities and add more action. On another note if Iron Man just flew around in the background while the movie was focused on SCARLET JOHANSSON it would have been well worth every penny. I want to marry this woman! Her or Jessica Biel, I guess they're going to have to fight it out over me lol!

Album drops June 29th via iTunes

Special thx to my dude Young Blaow! The album cover came out great. This definitely captures the feeling of the music on the album and it helped that YB kept in contact with me through every step of this process. Every draft he made he sent me and I would hit em back with my critiques. The elements we ended up with are pretty much the same but the changes we made as we went along made a huge difference. This one is definitely a winner. Album drops June 29th, in the meantime I'm offering all fans a free download of "Dedication". Click on the link below and enjoy the music.

It's a bird no it's a plane

Sgt & Just Putt

Nah man it's the DPS! My dude Putt came through to the lab while we were doing some final mixing for S.O.U.L. Music. It's always jokes and smoke when we chill and it was good to see my partner in rhyme in good spirits. We recently finished up recording our first track for the project and we got a few more on deck.

Getting to Work

My two singles got sent off for mastering and the finishing touches are being added to the rest of the album over these next two weeks. As for the DPS we just recently recorded the first song on the album and we have a few more in the works, I'm gonna to keep this ball rolling. On a sad note shortly after we recorded the first joint my dude Putt lost one of closest friends. His friend and his friends Fiance were arriving home from their engagement party and we're approached and taken in cold blood. I wish this wasn't reality but unfortunately this is the world we live in. Putt is doing his best to hold his head up. I pray for him to stay strong and for the families that have experienced this tremendous loss. I asked Putt if he wanted some time mourn and pause DPS production for a minute but he's not with that, my camp stay trooping!

Dead Poet's Society

(Just Putt, Young Bloaw!, SGT, Z3)

Dead Poet's Society is me and my dude Just Putt (standing with notebook). I've known Putt for a few years now, we used to bump heads at open mics. I like the idea of group projects and decided to ask Putt if he was interested in doing an album after he featured on one of my tracks for S.O.U.L. Music. We begin recording for DPS as S.O.U.L. Music is wrapping up and getting ready for mastering, stay tuned!

Gotta Luv em!

These are the new spizikes one of my latest acquisitions. I don't know what it is about kix but I love em! I could throw on a plain tee, some crisp levis, and FRESH pair of kix and I'm good. I know a lot of heads who are far more obsessed then I am but still it's pretty bad.

Hard work continues

(Z3 & SGT)

"Yo G you think that sound aite?" That's probably what I was saying to G Staxx when they took this candid. Z3 is my right hand man when it comes to sound but everyone hears different and G is always helping us out while he's there so I always ask. Biggup to G for keeping it humble, my dude always lends a hand with taking flicks. catching footage, or helping out making connections.

Good to have Family

(Victor & SGT)

My cousin Vic came through to the studio a couple nights to get some video footage. My cousin does editing for a living so he's helping me out in that aspect not to mention he's been a long time supporter of my music. It's always good to have family.

PIRATE RADIO

I saw this movie last night and I thought it was pretty good. I like a rebel movie especially when music is involved. This movie was about pirate radio in the UK during the Rock Revolution and its definitely worth watching. There's plenty of comedy to keep you laughing so like I said not a bad watch.

Photo Shoot for album

This is one of the images captured at a photo shoot for S.O.U.L. music. I want you to feel like you're picking up a classic soul album when you pick my CD up off the shelves or when you're browsing through the Itunes music store.

Trip to the hospital?

This is my oldest princess Aiyanna Haze. We had a little impromptu trip to the hospital two nights ago but as you can see we always make the most of it. Needless to say she did not have that smile on when it was time for blood work lol, I love you little mama! Everything turned out fine and she is in perfect health. I guess it's better to be safe then sorry especially with something so precious.

S.O.U.L. Music gets a dose of FUNK

J Funk - A San Diego native that I had the pleasure of finding via the web. When you here this sound you hear true hip hop. J's sound seems to bring that early 90's Golden Era feel to a new audience with new techniques. Needless to say I was on the phone with this dude until 7am this morning working out a deal for three of his beats. No doubt these tracks are aimed at making S.O.U.L. MUSIC but stay tuned bc I'm sure his production is gonna pop up on the DEAD POET'S SOCIETY project and more projects to come!

Hard Work Pays Off

Had a good session in the studio the other night. This is one of the photos taken by G. You can see Z3 on the boards, Serringe yapping away on the newly aquired IPhone, and my cousin Vic manning the HD cam on the tripod, and you already know in the middle like a Puerto Rican Diddy ( minus the dances and the "take that take that" adlibs) lol. We got some good footage, some good stills, finished up the outro, and mixed a few of the tracks. If hard work pays off then I'm ready for my fortune.

New Track prod by Bobby Garcia

(Bobby Garcia & SGT OVER)

My boy and engineer Z3 told me about a beat he heard from his neighbor at the studio space. Well the beat was so dope he called me to say that I had to hear it. When I got to the studio last night I went over and took a listen. Needless to say the beat is fresh and I already have the hook and first verse. I have to pause to hit the supermarket and stock up for my lil ladies. Yo Bobby good looking for the beat fam I'll send you the track when it's done.

New Artwork

New image created by the one and only Dr. Aquafresh aka Young Bloawness! This dude is not just a random contributor but a permanent member of the team and a driving force for the movement. Your going to see this image popping up in different places on the web. As always good looking out for the hard work!

ARTIST SUING DJ????

LiL Wayne is Suing DJ Drama. That's crazy! I'm not big on Wayne and I couldn't care less about DJ Drama and his Gangsta Grills mixstape (by far one of the stupidest names I ever heard for any project let alone a mix tape but with these idiots it makes sense) but just the fact that an artist is suing a DJ for putting out material which kept him relavent in the first place is crazy.

CD FOR SALE LOL!

Every now and again people go to google (or your favorite search engine) and type in their own name to see what they find. Last night in the midst of listening to old soul records for samples and going over art ideas for the album I typed in SGT OVER. I was surprised to see that someone had a sealed copy of my first mix tape "Hostile Takeover". Not only that but they're selling it for $17.97, good job! Whoever you are I'm not mad at all. It's not like they're selling a case full of em so I'm sure it's just a fan. I gave out so many of these things on the east coast you never know. I even sent some to the UK, anything is possible.

S.O.U.L. MUSIC is on its way!

"It feels good to make soul music" is a quote from a track off the new project and that statement is true to every letter. This album is me delivering my story from the heart with out compromising any of the story for wordplay or wow factors and the messages are shining through. If you're familiar with my work then you know I've been in attack mode for quite some time figuring I would eventually find myself through the disfiguring of other rappers styles and statures. Eventually I found myself as an artist and I'm happy with the result. Now I'm exactly who I been looking for on this journey through lyricism, crazy right?! With this album I give you the story of my childhood, the tale of my city, I explain my situations with my daughters' mothers, my ability with words, and how my children are my reason for breathing. I held back nothing and put my mistakes in plain view. "Ugly Love Song" is one that sticks out where I put myself on blast. S.O.U.L. Music is my lyrical expression of who I was before and the events that lead to me being who you see before you today.

Metaphorically Speaking

As an artist I pride myself on being true to who I am. I don't try and portray myself in a way that if you met me in person you would see a total departure from who I am in my songs. Many what I like to call "TRUE" MC's experiment with their music. I personally have had intergalactic battles with onslaughts of alien like rappers from distant realms, but that's me being creative and exploring my sub conscious perception of life. If you strip away my metephor you will see that distant galaxy was probably a show or open mic I went to for the first time filled with a bunch of wack rappers which is why they're alien to me, I don't deal with wack my crew stay FRESH! Point being as crazy as it may seem on the surface everything I speak of stems from my real life experiences.
