COMMON KNOWLEDGE

Asher Roth; some people love em and others hate em. At HHHS we appreciate good hip hop and if you try to say that "Common Knowledge" is anything but then you're lying to yourself. The video is dope, the beat is fresh, and AR went in on the lyrics. Hip Hop is alive and kicking so stop hating and start celebrating. Diversify those Ipods people!

WHISPERS

J-Sass recently released her latest video "Whispers" via youtube. The song comes off her "Diary Of A Female MC" project and the video is directed by Lyte Epps. JS talks about coming up as an MC and describes some of the reactions she's received along the way which makes the sample that is used for the hook "They just stare and whisper where ever I go" very fitting. From the song to the video over all it was a job well done. As a special holiday treat there's some eye candy at the end of the video, enjoy!

CRISPY CRUNCHY SMOOTH & FUNKY

We've had this album on heavy rotation since we received the press kit. This album is right at home with HHHS. This is classy music baby and there is no doubt about it! Grab a sifter of your favorite cognac, light up a fat chunky cigar, and get ready for a smooth ride. So far FALL is our favorite track on the album "Head over heels but I won't hit the ground, I'm levitating, wishing on a cloud" is just an example of the fresh verbal skill laid down by Earl Grey and the style Dianetics brings to the production is unrivaled. If you're from NJ you need to check out that ODE TO NJ, enjoy the album!

DaStarving Artist

I recently linked up with Mr. Mustart to talk to him about doing my next album cover in which he agreed. I came across this interview with him over the weekend and thought it was an interesting view into his world.

HELLO (What Up?)

This is the latest video from Scheme featuring Astonish. I got put on to Scheme about a year or two ago and I'm diggin his sound. "Hello(What Up?) was done in b/w which is always a good look and is track that lends itself to the mainstream feel while maintaining its roots in the sound Scheme is known for.

DAMAGE PER SECOND

DPS - Damage Per Second comes to us from Italy. Though most of you may not understand the lyrics the language of music is universal and is communicated through feeling. From the start of the video through the end viewers are on edge every second wondering what will happen next. The beat is sick, the cuts were precise and on point, and the burner at the end was off the chain!

THE COMMITTEE

This crew is dope and their hip hop definitely has Soul. The Committee is a group made up of 5 members four MC's (GodseNt, Ceaze, JrZ, and Eli RootZ) and a singer (Idania). "We were put here to expand your mind and re-evaluate not only what is considered to be Hip Hop & RnB, but music in general, ideas and thoughts, originality, and also bring back the excitement and true enjoyment of great music being spread to the masses by serious artists who take the initiative to connect with their fans." The Next chapter is a great hip hop album with heavy jazz and soul elements combined with great lyric content. Hats off to the committe. Download this project and share it with your friends.

TOKE

A flow unlike any you've heard before. Toke delivers a rhythmic cadence through and through. "Get Em" was directed, filmed, edited, and produced by Frank G aka The ISH. The beat is rooted in the classic boom bap drums with a synthesized/flanged overlay, a smooth melody, and a knocking bass line. In the video starring Mr. INC the main shot is a performance by Toke which cuts back and forth to a story line where his girl is cheating on him. He tracks her down and catches her in the act which leads to the final shot with her and the Mr. INC tied up about to be murdered. The song and video for "Get Em" show good execution all around by the team that took part.

DIALETIC

Beatiful Life (Dialetic ft. Monroe S.E.C.T & J Hudson) by SPUNSTAR RECORDS

This track has a dope beat, content with depth, and I'm feeling the hook. The tone of the singers voice carries well. "Beautiful Life" is feel good music with a message. Play it in your ciphers or at your bbq's, either way they won't be mad at you.

MIND OF A MADMAN

MIND OF A MADMAN (PROD. BY RAN REED) by wizewiggy

WizeWiggy - A Jersey City vet that commands the respect of a battle tested platoon leader delivers a one hitter quitter with "Mind Of A Madman". This MC is a product of the Jersey City I know, not the one you see developing today. When you come up in a harsh environment like the old Jersey City everyday is a war and you have to be on point 24-7. This track is a message to all the so called "thugs" and "gangstas" that real g's do what they do because they have or had to not because it sells records. Nothing about this track is pretty but it is definitely a beautiful thing! 201 you should be on your feet already so instead of saying "Stand Up" I'm going to say lets march!!

STILL DOPE

Stahhr is still dope and I can't imagine that she will ever not be dope! A true MC from the heart of the culture, Stahhr popped her quarter in and delivered a flawless victory on the MF Doom produced "Still Dope". This is just one of the treats served up on Stahhr's "Almost Neva Was" album which is available via bandcamp in digital and cd.

Jersey City native and member of 201 The Movement (PSTM) Nina Foxx delivers a dope vibe throughout the HBIC video. VASCO

Vasco - I was put on to this MC by Earl Grey. This is definitely my kind of music. This is that cruising in the whip on a chill summer day at sundown or cooling at bbq with endless sticky, some banging ribs, and bottles of that vintage grown and sexy sounding ish! Basically this is that real hip hop. These are the sounds I enjoy hearing coming out the speakers. I'm not gonna get to crazy with this write up and bc the vids speak for themselves. The 1st is Yerba Exotica ft Earl Grey and the 2nd vid is Love/Hate.

FEEL THAT

New video from Earl Grey and Dianetics called "Feel That" and if you can't feel it check your pulse because your senses might be dead when it comes to hip hop music! This is definitely a dope joint with organic urban imagery throughout the video. "Feel That" is definitely worth the watch and listen.

GRAYSCALE BALLADS

"The duo of Tab and A.U.R.C'S debut is simply, "soul music for the searching soul." Together, they take us on a whiskey walk through old neighborhoods of organ keys,midnight-black guitars and gray-scaled-rhyme patterns that flourishes-everything together from pounding-break beat rhythms to delicate string placements, making it feel like Charles Bukowski and Lord Finesse sat down together and made a personal "cd manifesto" on how to find something sacred in the every-day ordinary." Couldn't have said it better myself. This is the type of Hip Hop we encourage at HHHS! Click the link below and get your free copy of the EP.

KID CUBICLE

Check out this first effort from Jersey City's own Kid Cubicle. The video shot by Max Delgado is of great quality and the perspective that KC comes from with the content of his lyrics definitely lent for good imagery. I liked the laid back laxed out flo that Kid Cubicle delivers in his music. He's definitely walking his path and not keeping up with the Joneses.

TRA$H

The video "Bolero Ferrer" features Trash Executioner, a band from Jersey City, and was filmed and edited by Dontique of Art N Culture. I'm definitely feeling this groove. The song is played well the vocals are on point, the lead singer strutted across the screen with major swag, the scenery was entertaining, and you can't go wrong with black and white. An all around good performance by everyone involved in this project!

NEGATIVE FEEDBACK

One of the dopest deliveries and cadences I've heard in a long time. Sol Zalez brings me back to when I first heard that raw underground ish! The flo is raw and uncut and the tracks are head bangers. The only joint on NF I wasn't crazy about was crazy world, probably just not my cup of tea. All around the project was a dope listen and I suggest you go download that. Sol also has another project dropping tomorrow 11/11/11 called "Reisende". Stay tuned for info on that release.

STR8 JACKIT

Every now and then something hot just drops on you from out of nowhere and I don't mean bird sh!t. I popped open twitter yesterday and saw this dude @Coastellano aka East Coast posting links for his music. I clicked the first link hit play on youtube a heard a beast murdering this track with a delivery that sounds like he was born spittin. I hit dude up and he pointed me to STR8 JACKIT. This whole BAD KARMA team (East Coast, Taboo, Tones, and Coal) is pretty sick. We've heard most of these beats before but the way this team kills it makes it sound like the beats were created for them. I suggest you download this mixtape immediately and let me not forget to mention that it's $free.99!!!

ROCK THE BELLS

"Rock The Bells!" A term that just about every hip hop head is familiar with and this release by Venomous2000 and DJ Priority definitely exemplifies the meaning. DJ Priority's production is tight, the cuts are crisp and precise, and Venomous slices and dices his way through this track effortlessly like a true samurai. From start to finish this track is banging! Share the video, download the track via bandcamp, come out those pockets, and lay some bread on the table. For the price of two rolls at the bodega you can simultaneously own a great track and support great artist.

TONY TOCA

Al Lindstrom sits down with Tony Touch in the first installment of the "Boom Bap Hustler" series to discuss his history in radio, his introduction to the New York scene, and the premise of his current satellite radio show. One thing that I was glad to hear is the return of the 50 MC's series which in my circle was always a big deal when they dropped. "Who did Toca feature on this one? Why wasn't so and so on it?! Who's this new cat he's pretty dope?" was some of what you would hear during the round table discussions.

LUMBERJACK SOUL

Born and raised in Kansas City Miles Bonny produces, sings, and plays the trumpet creating the sounds that are heard throughout Lumberjack Soul. From the first track you can hear the hip hop/soul influence. I would love to rhyme on a track like that and if your a lyricist with depth I'm sure you would too. This is a great cookout, clean the house, hold down the porch album. Pour your favorite wine, cognac, etc... lax back and enjoy the tracks!

Remember cartridges? Remember having to blow the dust out or putting two cartridges into a console to keep one down amongst all the other wild stuff people did to get their favorite NES game to work? Chillin with the homey Jesus Himself is always a dope experience. If you're fortunate enough to enter the Jesus Lair prepare to be amazed. From the extensive VHS and Cassette tape collections, to the art collection seen throughout, a massive array of records, a chess table that sees a lot of use, and too many other things to name, it's definitely a trip through time, space, and anything else you'd like to call it. NEW JERSEY XPERIENCE

"This DVD represents a trip through New Jersey Hip Hop History and at the same time gives insight to it's new generation. An epic demonstration of hard work and determination!" That's a direct quote from the back cover of the DVD and I couldn't have said it better myself! At the movie premier when LumberJack Johnson was asked what he expects his response was "Something EPIC!" and he was definitely right. The cinematography was top notch, the soundtrack was dope, and the acting was A+. Everyone seemed like seasoned professionals on the big screen. I'm proud to say these brothers are from my hometown Jersey City and I commend them on their hard work and drive. Big Shout outs to The Heat, Cheese, East Coast Muscle, and TriFector films. SMALL WORLD

This project by Jimmy Dyce is definitely one that I recommend you check out. Right off the jump you can get an idea of the type of artist JD is on Good Morning "Excuse Kanye he's gonna sell you something" lol. After hearing small world I would have to say Dyce epitomizes the I don't give a f^*% what you think I'm doing me anyway attitude. Throughout the album you can tell that the words you hear were from the heart and truthful. The style is dope and delivery was precise. Good production choices and the tracks being mixed well give the project a smooth ride from top to bottom. I have this one in steady rotation. Shout out to Jimmy Dyce, I look forward to hearing more music from this artist.

THIRTY SECOND RECIPES

The intro sets the tone for the album. When I heard the lady's voice I pictured myself being in a therapy session circa 1922 hypnotized and listening to her smoke worn voice as she puffs on a lucky strike through a quellazaire(cigarette holder). The tone of the production combined with Doc's voice is like a melodic trip through another dimension. From beginning to end the album has a vintage feel to it and the skits that are interjected before some of the tracks make it feel like you're back in that therapy session and the music is the exploration of the subconscious. At no point did I get bored or want to skip a track. Production is tight and the content is honest and well thought out. "Thirty Second Recipes" is a good listen from beginning to end. I definitely recommend you hit the download button and take that trip!! Shout out to Doc Reevez.

THOUGHT KRYMINAL

Physical Graffiti "Hamlet Complex" produced by DJ Priority (Clean) by djpriority

I recently had the pleasure of meeting PG and sharing the airwaves with her on The Gumpy Gandules Show. I happened to have my daughter with me so it was cool that a Femcee was in the building and it was dope to see them vibe. PG gave us a copy of this album and I've been banging these trax on a regular basis since then. First thing I liked about it was the packaging. The artwork is fresh and the liner notes were thought out. Pop the disc in and as soon as you press play the album pulls you in. The production is tight throughout and the tracks were mixed by seasoned hands. PG's content definitely has depth, her delivery is on point, and her voice is crowd commanding. I most definitely recommend you go to http://www.thoughtkryminal.com/ and purchase your copy today! While you're there explore the links to check out her videos and press features. This video is shot and edited very well. This isn't your average "turn on the cam and catch me rhyming" type of video. They had a concept and executed it from beginning to end. That right hook from CF on the cop was serious get that dude a boxing career! Stay tuned for more work by this camp featured on HHHS. Shout out to the Jersey City massive, 3's UP!

A-List mixtapes by A Sharp

A Sharp is an ill DJ and all around hip hop enthusiast. At the start of 2011 he began putting out the A-List mixtape series which features tons of talent from the New Jersey area. Throughout the series you can tell that he's dedicated to finding the illest and rawest talent coming out of New Jersey and delivering it to the masses in a true in your face format. No sugar coating, no bullshit. If your from Jersey and are real about making music there's a chance you can find it on one of the 5 volumes he's put out so far. A Sharp displays the type of dedication to his craft that should be put to the forefront of the true hip hop movement. Like they say "You can't stop the rock!" and my dude got it rocking! Looking forward to hearing the next installment in the A-List series but in the meantime you can download all of the existing volumes @ http://www.datpiff.com/profile/djasharp1 and 1 last thing- did I mention they are all fee!!

Urban Outlook: JROD

Jonathan Rodriguez aka JRod is a Jersey City native and guerrilla style photographer. I like J's work because there is a very raw very real feeling that comes through his photographs. Through J's Lens any person or city landscape can become a work of art worth far more then a thousand words. I look forward to seeing more of his work in the future and working with him on some of our projects and possibly getting an interview for the site.

3's Up LO Down

Jersey City's recognition is long over due. There's a lot of talent in this city but there always seems to be a dark cloud hovering over. It's time to put aside the bullshit and back to what matters; Dope beats, Raw lyrics, and Crisp recordings!! Jersey City MC's have been delivering all of the above since before I can remember. In this first interview for the Jersey City Hip Hop series we interviewed @Dontique a Brooklyn transplant, prominent member of the 3 nation, and the LL's. Shout out to my homie Roc Lifshitz that's was in the building!

Pigeon Hole

Check out this video by Pigeon Hole ft D-Sisive. This is the first time I've heard of this group but I definitely like the sound. The lyrics a well crafted and when it comes to being witty the bars are razor sharp. Shout out to D-Sisive for really flipping the word play. The video was directed by Stuey Kubrick (that name rocks!) and the quality is top notch. I look forward to hearing more from Pigeon Hole and D-Sisive.

1st single off of LASERS

Lupe doesn't always have my favorite beats but the lyrical content is what matters to me most. Lupe definitely raises the bar on MC's with his lyrics especially in the first single released from his latest album "LASERS (Love Always Solves Everything Remember to Smile)." I'm definitely copping this album when it drops on March 8th!

"Sometimes I kick high, Sometimes I punch low."

It has been said many times before that Hip hop culture and kung fu movies are closely related. The countless references to martial arts films in rap joints and groups like Wu Tang Clan have given us proof of that. For broths and sisters that live in the major cities of the US, life can be filled with just as much excitement as these films: plot twists, revenge, love, etc. One can never really tell when they gonna find themselves in a kung fu movie kinda day... so I have compiled a list of ways that you can tell whether or not its time to release your inner Sonny Chiba:

1) You wake up with a nagging urge to avenge your master's death.
2) Your new exercise regimen consists of digging large holes and carrying heavy buckets up impossible flights of stairs.
3) The voices of you and all of your friends have been replaced by British voice actors.
4) An old blind man just beat the tar outta the 10 guys harassing him near the bus stop u waiting at.
5) When u check your mail, you discover you have been invited to compete in "Han's Tournement"
6) The man at the bank answered your question 20 minutes ago... but his lips are still moving.
7) Your girlfriend just got a new job at the bean curd stand.
8) All the guns in your neighborhood have been replaced by nunchaku, chinese broadswords, tonfas and 3 section staffs. (Oh how I wish!)
9) All of your sentences are accented by "heh, right."
10) something you said has just been sampled by the RZA.

I hope that this will guide you through a day that you may have some confusion about. Be diligent. Be daring. And remember folks... "don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory."
