3's Up LO Down

Jersey City's recognition is long over due. There's a lot of talent in this city but there always seems to be a dark cloud hovering over. It's time to put aside the bullshit and back to what matters; Dope beats, Raw lyrics, and Crisp recordings!! Jersey City MC's have been delivering all of the above since before I can remember. In this first interview for the Jersey City Hip Hop series we interviewed @Dontique a Brooklyn transplant, prominent member of the 3 nation, and the LL's. Pigeon Hole

Check out this video by Pigeon Hole ft D-Sisive. This is the first time I've heard of this group but I definitely like the sound. The lyrics a well crafted and when it comes to being witty the bars are razor sharp. Shout out to D-Sisive for really flipping the word play. The video was directed by Stuey Kubrick (that name rocks!) and the quality is top notch. I look forward to hearing more from Pigeon Hole and D-Sisive.

1st single off of LASERS

Lupe doesn't always have my favorite beats but the lyrical content is what matters to me most. Lupe definitely raises the bar on MC's with his lyrics especially in the first single released from his latest album "LASERS (Love Always Solves Everything Remember to Smile)." I'm definitely copping this album when it drops on March 8th!

It has been said many times before that Hip hop culture and kung fu movies are closely related. The countless references to martial arts films in rap joints and groups like Wu Tang Clan have given us proof of that. For broths and sisters that live in the major cities of the US, life can be filled with just as much excitement as these films: plot twists, revenge, love, etc. One can never really tell when they gonna find themselves in a kung fu movie kinda day... so I have compiled a list of ways that you can tell whether or not its time to release your inner Sonny Chiba:

1) You wake up with a nagging urge to avenge your master's death.
2) Your new exercise regimen consists of digging large holes and carrying heavy buckets up impossible flights of stairs.
3) The voices of you and all of your friends have been replaced by British voice actors.
4) An old blind man just beat the tar outta the 10 guys harassing him near the bus stop u waiting at.
5) When u check your mail, you discover you have been invited to compete in "Han's Tournement"
6) The man at the bank answered your question 20 minutes ago... but his lips are still moving.
7) Your girlfriend just got a new job at the bean curd stand.
8) All the guns in your neighborhood have been replaced by nunchaku, chinese broadswords, tonfas and 3 section staffs. (Oh how I wish!)
9) All of your sentences are accented by "heh, right."
10) something you said has just been sampled by the RZA.

I hope that this will guide you through a day that you may have some confusion about. Be diligent. Be daring. And remember folks... "don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory."

The Hangover

I think a lot of us can relate to this one lol! Yeah I've done the drunk text and felt the same way when I realized it. I haven't heard of Shawn Chrystopher before I came across this video but I went to his site honourrolestudent.com to hear some more and so far I like the sound. Jersey City Breaking it Down

I was recently informed about a B-Boy movement going down in my hometown so you know I had to check it out. There was an event held in July in downtown Jersey City on bright street where they also hold weekly break classes ( I plan to bring my dgt ). I was definitely proud to see that this movement seemed strong and sturdy! That night they had a few battles and random freestyle breaking Which was dope for sure. There was one lil dude in particular about 8yo and his style was phenomenal. All in all it was a good look and I will be attending more events in the future so don't forget my invite lol! Shout out to NBK and Rival who was dubbed as the man who organized the events and from my standpoint is driving force pushing this movement forward in Jersey City.
